Today on July 6th, I landed in Boston with our Dutch family of seven. It was 14 years ago…
It was a BIG dream… A crazy dream, they said.
It would completely change the lives of our five kids, my husband, and me literally overnight.
Imagine waking up tomorrow with a ‘knowing’ that you have to leave your home and country.
Have you ever had a feeling in your gut that you had to make a crazy choice, as a mom?
And you wondered if you could? Because you have kids AND feel so responsible?
My Soul told me we were going to leave Holland and move to America. Just like that.
To make a long story short, our kids truly believed that you could just leave everything behind, pack up your suitcase, and hop on a plane. And in all honesty, that is exactly what we did. Nobody understood us.
We left our beloved life behind and jumped on a plane with suitcases in hand. Everybody said we were crazy.
Many people thought we were out of our minds. I agree, we absolutely were.
You must be out of your mind to follow your Soul’s path. Just like that.
Upon arrival we faced many challenges: not speaking the language, no contacts, no jobs, hardly any money, an empty house, our luggage floating on the ocean for two months, and more.
Where do you begin? How do you start? A few weeks after our arrival 9/11 happened and I wanted to run back home for safety. What had I done? Were we safe? Doubt crept in. That’s what happens when you follow your dream.
Doubt comes up when challenges arise. I wanted to run back...
14 years later, many things beyond my wildest dreams have come to pass. Very challenging things, too. And we are still here.
What was the best part of our move?
Our kids got amazingly strong wings because they learned that if you can start over once, you could do it twice.
They believe you must go after your dreams AND they come true. They also know that life isn’t always easy. Because it isn’t. They also know that your gut guides you to your true calling. Every single time.
What was the challenging part of our move? (As a mom)
Our kids are fearless and believe everything is possible. They study and live all over the world. They’ve experienced that it’s safe to take a risk. Things always work out in the end. Because they do.
As a mom, I rather have them under my wings…I am that kind of mom. I miss them and find it hard sometimes.
When they are far away I want to nurture them when they are sick, or hurt, or sad. I’ve learned that as a mom you must surrender and trust…A lesson I practice daily.
I learned that I couldn’t use my kids as an excuse to postpone my dream. They are part of the journey to get there.
When I learned NOT to use my kids as an excuse to fully step into my purpose, my business start to bloom in a very big way. Until that time I played small and life was actually harder. I have more joy and more free time now.
What I know for sure:
The greatest gift as a mom is to show your kids that you believe in your dreams so that they have the courage to go for theirs.
No matter how crazy your dreams are as a mom, you must go for it. Full out.
Start your business, write your book, open your healing center, become the CEO of your company, start blogging.
It’s possible. We have to make choices that either chain us to our ‘obligations’ or free our spirit and do both.
You can be a mom AND live your calling. That’s the New Code of Motherhood.
Your kids made a conscious choice to have you as their mom. So…show them your deepest passion.
It’s my deepest passion to inspire 100.000 women all over the world to love motherhood, create happy connected families and raise kids that thrive. That’s how the world will change!
But it all starts with mom. Your deepest passion matters. Now, not later. But when doubt creeps in you need support.
